Duet for Alex, cont.

I tell her they aren't that far away,

It is the same for everyone, the coming and going,

that soon, one by one,

the greeting and the re-greeting,

they’ll step from the darkness to join her again:

it is hard to remember

the man, and the woman,

the peace and the light, and the undying silence,

and the boy with kind eyes,

 that called us inside

 and funny old Lucy

through  the window of time,

and that young upstart Hubble,

to hear the soul speaking

and the tiny blue bird

the one they called Jay

 that never stopped singing,
