Erica’s Getting Married

There it is Circle K, I told you so.

St. Martha’s Church is just down there,

on Orange Ave. It’s jammed with all their buds I bet.

And all of Dave and Ronnie’s friends.

And Mella too. I bet she cries

                                                          Chris?

Chris is thoughtful, soft.

It’s going to be a good marriage. Ronnie says

they even seem to think the same.

Like little science fiction twins.

These young marriages:

The wedding nights must be so wild.

They’ll both be wired. I hope

the walls are thick enough.

But think of little Erica.

All those years of nearly dying

and slowly climbing back to life,

and here she is, filled with hope

and starting out all over again

as though she had  a world of time

inside the world their love had made.
