          Craig’s Getting Married

For Jennifer and Craig Bridqes

Here it is, Orange Ave, I told you so. St. Martha’s Church is just down there, It’s past that light. I’ll bet you  Ronnie cries a lot.  David too.

                   Jennifer?

We’ve never met.  But who can say, the way I keep forgetting things. Ronnie says she’s very slim. And thoughtful too. You’ll know her by her eyes, she says.

These young marriages, the wedding nights must be so wild. But something else, a kind of awe: all those years of slowly dying in singles bars and then one night, you don’t know why, you look into a stranger’s eyes, and see there’s someone nice inside

 quietly smiling back at you.
