EERIE SILENCE

I observed an eerie silence like no other.

Despite the desolation on the streets

And regardless of devastation beneath my feet,

The silence didn’t comfort me as it had previously.

Silence brought on by fear is deafening

If I listen too closely, I might succumb

To the guttural howls of angst

Amid this devastating illusion.

If I listen too carefully, I might immerse myself

Into careless notions, on my mind, not chosen.
