LABORING ALONE

Alone in my pain

Cords encumbered me

Another shot of something

So they don’t have to see.

Tears streamed down my face

Releasing unkempt madness.

Quickening of my pulse,

Unmasking my sadness.

I called out,

But you passed me by.

I cried out in agony

You told me I’d survive.

“Suck it up, kid”

Is what they always said-

My tears were stifled

My needs were suppressed.

Alone in my pain

Cords encumbered me again.

This time my tears flow freely.

Melancholy is inevitable,

But, somehow it releases me.
