PRETENDING

Here we are, once again

You sitting over there

Pretending to be my friend.

I won’t dance with you

Or play along with this charade.

I won’t indulge you in playing cards

Or with drinking games.

Friday nights offered so much promise

Sunday hangovers and compulsory headaches

You left me tattered, tormented

Despite all the lovely things you said.
