RELENTLESS ANXIETY

I long to quell my mind

To ease the burden of the things

That surrounded my mind.

Whispers, taunting madness

Suffocation, stifling

Uneasiness, without rest.

Surrounded by enemies

Haunted by grievances

Nothing could stop the terror

The relentless pounding

Of my heart.

I prayed for a pill to take the madness away.

The pills did nothing

Except make me worse off than before-

Year after years, running scared.

Robbed of my victory

The tyrant, my enemy

Enticed me with vague subtleties.

I wished for peace, unattainable sanity.
