at night,
when the world
goes silent and
the lights shut off,
my mind races,
pouncing through the
brush that is my thoughts,
spinning and circling
like a lioness and her
newfound prey.
i’ve learned to be
okay with the
lioness that my
mind becomes.
because when the
morning comes, i’ve
now got a million ways on
now to catch my
next meal.
i pull my hair
out of my face,
streak blood across
my cheeks, and
prepare myself for a
battle so great, you
don’t even realize
it’s there.
