Lizards
Look at those lizards!
Quick-fire tongues poking,
All solemn winks
And sun-baked words.
The things we'd tell each other
With tongues like theirs!
They smile because they know
We can't understand them,
And nod at secrets undisclosed.
Wrinkled arrows
In unimaginable places -
There! And there! There goes one! Look!
On those balmy afternoons,
Languid and sweaty,
You're sure to hear them,
Their intermittent breathing: Reptilian relief
