The Photo Album
I dust off a family album old,
I open the pages and realise
The photos are in black and white with gold
Borders. What do I see before my eyes?
My great grandmother mothering a child,
It's my grandmother. She was once so cute
Yet besides her siblings, they all look wild.
In another photo she plays the flute.
Someone older stands besides her long-gone,
It's my great-great grandmother, she's novel
Holding my granny in her arms when one,
This woman's long been under the shovel.
Members of family I didn't know,
