Hide Your face from my sins And blot out all my iniquities. 10. Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11. Do not cast me away from Your presence And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. 12. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation And sustain me with a willing spirit. 13. And not many days later, the younger son gathered everything together and went on a journey into a distant country, and there he squandered his estate with loose living. 14. Now when he had spent everything, a severe famine occurred in that country, and he began to be impoverished. 15. So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16. And he would have gladly filled his stomach with the pods that the swine were eating, and no one was giving anything to him. 17. But when he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have more than enough bread, but I am dying here with hunger! 18. I will get up and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight; 19. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me as one of your hired men.”’ 20. So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. 21. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22. But the father said to his slaves, ‘Quickly bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet; 23. and bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let us eat and celebrate; 24. for this son of mine was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.’ And they began to celebrate.

When Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, “Zaccheus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” 6. And he hurried and came down and received Him gladly. 7. When they saw it, they all began to grumble, saying, “He has gone to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.” 8. But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’” 5. Then the devil *took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, 6. and *said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, ‘He will command His angels concerning You’; and ‘On their hands they will bear You up, So that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’” 7. So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son; and he split wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4. On the third day Abraham raised his eyes and saw the place from a distance. 5. Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey, and I and the lad will go over there; and we will worship and return to you.” 6. Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son, and he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So the two of them walked on together. 7. Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” And he said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” 8. Abraham said, “God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” So the two of them walked on together. 9. Then they came to the place of which God had told him; and Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood, and bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10. Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11. But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 12. Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. 5. For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6. knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; 7. for he who has died is freed from sin.

Are not Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?” So he turned and went away in a rage. 13. Then his servants came near and spoke to him and said, “My father, had the prophet told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?” 14. So he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child and he was clean.
