"Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength. Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved." I Chron. 16:28-30
I just have a quick thought to share with you. Here is a command given to us to "give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name." I hope and pray that you use His name respectfully. When you use His name to curse someone, that is NOT giving Him glory. Christians should not say, "oh my God!" or "darn" or "dang" or anything like that! Get yourself a Webster's and look up the meanings of those words. Give His name the glory that is due.
We also see we are to come before Him and worship Him. You do not worship God on your own terms. That is what Cain tried to do. (Gen. 4:5) You worship God because He deserves worship and glory! The Bible acknowledges that there are "gods" (Deut. 10:17; Ps. 95:3; Ps. 96:4; etc), but He (the LORD God) is the ONLY God Who deserves worship. Your god may be a false god or it may be a television, a person, a car, a house, etc. If it is in God's place (#1), then it has become your god. I urge you to cast all other gods aside to follow the True and Righteous God! Come and worship HIM His way! "God is a Spirit: and they that worshiphim must worshiphim in spirit and in truth." (Jn. 4:24) I hope you are going to church today to learn of Him.
Lastly, we see we are to "fear before Him, all the earth." Why are we to fear a God that is love? Look in His Word for your answer! There are many verses in the Word of God that tell us of His power, but we will use this one for now. "And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them." This was a future event that God showed to John and told him to write about. Wow! The face of the earth runs at the site of His face? That. my friends. is power! What about the Beginning? "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. " (Gen. 1:1) Imagine that! The God Who created all things, you included, has more power than we can even imagine. Yet, He loves you and I! The Bible says, "Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows." (Mt. 10:29-31) If He loves us enough to know how many hairs we have, shouldn't we worship Him? If He is that powerful and all-knowing, shouldn't we come before Him and give Him the glory due to His name? There is so much more that we can learn from this passage of Scripture, but I told you it would be quick right? :-)
God's richest blessings, Becky
