Giving Under Grace (The Attitude)

Old Testament tithing was part of the law. It wasn’t a request, proposal, suggestion, afterthought or wish. It was a commandment. And it wasn’t limited to money as we’ve just read, so it could get expensive.

Of course, if you tithe ten heads of cattle, that means you have ninety to do with as you choose, so you’d think that the more you tithed back then, the richer you had become, so tithing should be easy.

Nowhere are church members commanded to tithe: again, that is part of the Law. But we are stewards, specifically God’s stewards. We have been bought with a price, and all that we own is in reality, God’s possession which He allows us to hold onto and use as we choose.

2 Corinthians 9:7

Every man according as he purposeth in

his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly,

or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful
