Paul Writes the First Letter to the Thessalonians
Acts 18:1-3 KJV 1 After these things Paul departed from Athens, and
came to Corinth; 2 And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in
Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that
Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto
them. 3 And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and
wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.
Acts 18:11 KJV 11 And he continued there a year and six months,
teaching the word of God among them.
Introduction
Part of my intent in this series was to portray the books, or letters, epistles, that Paul wrote to the various churches when he was at certain places. I have skipped several to this point so, I want to go back and catch up with the epistles that he had written previously.
In doing so, I want to just give an overview of those books without going into a lot of detail contained in the books.
Paul’s First Letter to the Thessalonians
According to the verses given in this part, Paul was in Corinth. He had made contact with Aquilla and Priscilla who were in the tentmaking business like Paul. He went into business with them while doing the Lord’s work. Since he was there for eighteen months, it is believed that he wrote the first letter to the Thessalonians from Corinth during that time.
Timothy had returned to Corinth from Thessalonica to report to Paul that the church there was standing fast for the Lord in spite of the persecution that had been brought upon them. Paul was concerned that they might have 179
faltered because of the persecution that started that forced Paul and his companions to have to leave. It had been quite some time since they had left Thessalonica. With Timothy’s good report, Paul decided to write them a letter.
