THE LAWS OF THE FLESH.

What does the Bible mean when it talks about the flesh?

From a biblical perspective, the flesh is “that which is contrary to the spirit” (see Galatians 5:17). The flesh and the Spirit are two opposing forces that exist within a believer. The Spirit is just that—the Holy Spirit. The flesh is the part of a believer that disagrees with the Spirit. The makeup of a believer is different from that of an unbeliever, in that an unbeliever does not have the Spirit of God indwelling them. In the case of an unbeliever, the flesh is in agreement with the spirit of that unbeliever. Paul says “our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin” (Romans 6:6). What Paul is describing when he says “the body of sin” is the flesh.

When a believer’s old self, sometimes called the “old man,” is crucified—by this Paul means brought to faith in Christ, in His redemptive work on the cross—the Spirit indwells the believer, and a “new man” is created. A “new self” with a new nature (2 Corinthians 5:17). This new nature, or new man, is now in conflict with the flesh, because the new man is on the side of the Spirit. Paul famously describes this conflict in Romans, chapter 7, saying “I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out” (Romans 7:15-18). Later, he says “I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind (Limbic System - State 2 middle level, Second Heaven, Temptations: The Emotional State page 55) and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (v. 22-25). Again he mentions here the “body of death” by which he means the flesh.

Page. 218       Page. 219

The flesh exists in the body, and also in the brain—our neural pathways are affected by the flesh. (Limbic System page 95- State 2 middle level, Second Heaven, Temptations: The Emotional State page 55) That is why it is so difficult, oftentimes, for believers to break old habits and patterns of sin. (See page 101, 103, 150) We live for years building habits in the flesh that agree with the “old man” and then when the “new man” arrives, in agreement with the Spirit, we are suddenly in conflict. Some of these habits submit to the Spirit immediately and others are stubborn. One of the most difficult habits to break is one that Paul addresses repeatedly in his letters: the tendency of the flesh to attempt to gain heaven by Law. In Paul’s letter to the Galatians, he reminds them that “a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ” and again that we have been “crucified with Christ” (Galatians 2:16, 20). He says, “I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose” (Galatians 2:21)

This is confusing because of the many laws and rules that the Bible presents. From the Law of Moses to Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, we see the standard of perfection that God requires. The flesh responds by saying “I can do that” and attempting to obey, despite the obvious fact that none of us can achieve perfection. But the flesh is deceptive. Of the Pharisees, Jesus said “in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men” (Mark 7:7). Why did the Pharisees invent new laws? Didn’t they have enough to contend with following the Law? They had too much to contend with, and they knew it! So, they created alternate laws that they were able to follow. This is the work of the flesh.

One of the biggest criticisms the Christian church receives from unbelievers is that of hypocrisy. This hypocrisy is real, and the unbelievers are right to criticize us. Like the Galatians, we are deserting the grace of Christ and turning to another gospel (Galatians 1:6). Deceived by the flesh, we try to be good, moral, friendly, nice, loving, faithful people, but we forget that the law was not made to save us—it was designed to aggravate the flesh and show us our imperfections so that we will turn to Christ (Galatians 3:23-25). Because we forget this crucial doctrine, we wind up in a desperate struggle between the flesh and the new man, covering our sins with a thin veneer of morality that the world recognizes as hypocrisy.

Page. 220       Page. 221

We need to take John’s advice and come into the light, admitting sin, holding fast to God’s forgiveness and Christ’s substitutionary righteousness, so that we can be freed to live according to the Spirit (1 John 1:7-9). When the Spirit is in the lead, the flesh takes a backseat and we have peace (Romans 8:5-6). But none of that can be accomplished unless we first admit that we cannot obey the Law in our own strength. We uphold the Law as perfect, and a representation of God’s nature, and we strive to walk in His footsteps because when we do, we have peace (Romans 6:6). But, we still must accept two things: obedience to the Law will not get us into heaven, and disobedience to the Law will not exclude us from heaven. There are sins that will destroy your relationships with others, and sins that will destroy your body. There are sins that will wreak havoc on your career and land you in jail. And, once you are in Christ, there are sins that will rob you of sleep, of peace, of joy. But when you are in Christ there is no sin that you can commit that will make God let go of you (Romans 8:1-4). “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38).

THE LAW OF THE SPIRIT OF LIFE

Freedom in the Spirit by the Highest and Strongest Law In Romans 8 there is a wonderful term: the law of the Spirit of life (v. 2). In this phrase three things are composed together: law, Spirit, and life. This law is the fourth law that Paul mentions in Romans. In chapter seven there are three laws: the law of God, the law in our members, and the law of the mind. The law of the Spirit of life, no doubt, is the law of the divine life. By regeneration we received the divine life into our spirit, and with this highest life, there is the highest law. This law liberates us from the law of sin and death.

As we have seen, the third law, that is, the law of the mind, always responds and corresponds to the first law, the law of God. The problem, however, is with the second law, the law of sin and death. Because the third law is weaker than the second law, the second law always defeats the third law and brings us into captivity. However, the fourth law, the law of the Spirit of life, is the highest and strongest law, which liberates us from the second law and fulfills all the requirements of the first law. This is clearly mentioned in Romans 8:2 and 4.

THE MIND SET ON THE FLESH OR ON THE SPIRIT Verse 6 is another very important verse in Romans 8. Nearly every word in it is a key, because it is related to the three lives and four laws. As we have seen, the first law, the law of God, is outside of us and above us. The other three laws are all within us. The second law, the law of sin and death, is in our members. The third law, the law of our mind, is in our mind. The fourth law, the law of the Spirit of life, is in our spirit. This corresponds to the three parts—body, soul, and spirit—of our created, fallen, and regenerated person. In each part of our being there is a law. In our body there is the law of the satanic life, in our soul is the law of the human life, and in our spirit there is the law of the divine life. After God’s creation of man and before man’s fall, there was only one life in man with two laws. Although the law of God at that time was not given yet, it was there already in principle. Man had the created human life with the law of good within him to do the things which corresponded with God’s demand, that is, God’s law.

Page. 222       Page. 223

After the fall, however, a second life came in, and with this life there is an evil law. At this point, the trouble within man began. The law of God makes a demand, and the law of good within our soul, our human life, always tries to respond to God’s law. Because our mind is fallen, however, it does not always stand on the side of good, the side of the law of God. When our mind does not stand with the side of good, the second law will not rise up. However, whenever our mind sides with the side of good, the second law, the law of sin and death, comes in to interrupt and frustrate us. The law of the satanic life frustrates us and wars against the law in the human mind. This satanic law is stronger than the law of our human life. So, the human life with the law of the human life is always defeated. However, at the time of regeneration, we received the strongest life with the strongest law. This law, which is the law of the Spirit of life, can now deliver us. This law sets us free from the law of sin, fulfills the requirements of the law of God, and satisfies the desire of the law of the human life.

The operation of the law of these lives depends on which side the mind takes. The mind can side with the flesh, which has the law of sin in our members, or it can side with the spirit, with the law of the divine life in our spirit. There are two sides, and the mind is in the middle. Our experience depends on what side our mind stands with. Romans 8:6 says, “For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the spirit is life and peace.” Three things are mentioned in verse 6. The flesh is outside, the spirit is inside, and the mind is in the middle representing the soul. Now the mind can stand with the flesh on the outside or the spirit within. For our mind to stand with the flesh brings in death, but if our mind stands with the spirit, we will have life and peace. If we are not clear about this, it will be difficult for us to have real experiences of the Lord.

Because we were created, became fallen, and then were regenerated, the same mind on one occasion can be good and on another occasion not good. Romans 7:22 clearly indicates that the mind delights in the law of God, and verse 25 says, “So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God.” This means that the law of good in our mind always corresponds to the law of God, but this does not mean that the fallen mind is absolutely good. Other passages in the New Testament tell us that the mind is sinful and evil, such as Ephesians 2:3, which says, “We also all conducted ourselves once in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the thoughts.” The mind in Romans 7:25 is mentioned in a good sense. The mind of the spirit in Romans 8:6, however, is the mind set on the spirit.

The Secret Handshake of Love and Human will.

Page. 228       Page. 229

I call it the secret handshake for these reasons.

1.) Immoral Capitalism does not want you to know it. (Much of what is sold holds immorality and marketers count on the addictive nature.

2.) The Secret Handshake allows for more success in tethering others (Most conflicts originate from not tethering with the higher powers.

3) The Secret handshake puts everyone on the same page on ethics.

The main reason it is such a secret is that everyone is not on the same page on how to respect. And because of this fear and distrust we are all strangers toward each other. I am talking everyone being trained about the same laws of Love and Human will. If everyone were on the same page of what these two aspects was, we could communicate and conclude with more efficiency and be replicated it in others.

The secret handshake is something we all use but we are trained to see it differently. The tethering often is used in Click groups or Peer groups to board meetings and religions groups but often is controlled by Hearts Desires and not Love and Human Will. And a discipline of both Love and Human will is needed to successfully tether with others. It is a religion of connecting with others to perform desired tasks and use of the higher powers. Faith, Hope, Love, Justice, Prudence, Temperance, and Fortitude. The most powerful of these are Faith, Hope and the laws of love. The Greatest of all being Love.

Lets say for example there are two 16 year old kids in a playground and one is named Billy and the other is named Liam. Liam is bullying Billy from a place of hearts desires. Liam is agitated because of dysfunctional family problems, jealous anger and restlessness. Liam is getting bullied by his over worked father and neglected mother. Both are using Liam to vent frustrations and not communicating resentments properly when Liam does something wrong. Both have very much the same issues that Liam has. The behavior problems often get replicated throughout the family. And now Liam is replicating it in others he comes in contact with to mainly get attention.

Liam does not like Billy because he has many things that makes Billy popular. And Liam does not have any friends because he keeps his family issues secret. He sees Billy with friends playing and has all the things that Liam wants. Cool tennis shoes, cool outfits and a smart phone that his father refuses to get him. So to vent out Liam replicates what he has been taught about Love and Human will into his communications with others like Billy.

What Liam does not know yet is Billy is trained in Love and Human will. He walks the right path and has the disciplines to tether with others and teach by example.

Simple rules for living.

Laws of love that will change your life.

Page. 230       Page. 231

Ten timeless commandments and other top laws of

Love. Imagine a world where love guides every action. A community where people place others before themselves. A place where God is recognized and respected. Thousands of years ago, God shared the framework for life as it should be. A simple code for daily living that is the foundation of our laws and principles. Yet society is slowly moving from this essential guide, as these absolute truths give way to a subjective culture. How can we reclaim these ancient tenants for living and apply them in a modern world?

Ten commandments revisits the Bible’s perfect design for our relationship with God and those around us. Inside the Bible you’ll encounter TEN commandments that are as relevant now as the day they were given. Rediscover the wellspring of your faith. Reconnect with these profound truths. And reclaim God’s vision for your life through the power of the Ten Commandments.

The Ten Commandments, also known as the Decalogue,

are a set of biblical principles relating to ethics and worship, which play a fundamental role in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The commandments include instructions to worship only God, to honor one’s parents, and to keep the sabbath, as well as prohibitions against idolatry, blasphemy, murder, adultery, theft, dishonesty, and coveting. Different religious groups follow different traditions for interpreting and numbering them.

The Ten Commandments are listed twice in the Hebrew Bible, first at Exodus 20:1–17, and then at Deuteronomy 5:6–21. Both versions state that God inscribed them on

two stone tablets, which he gave to Moses on Mount Sinai. Modern scholarship has found likely influences in Hittite and Mesopotamian laws and treaties, but is divided over exactly when the Ten Commandments were written and who wrote them.

The biblical narrative of the revelation at Sinai begins in

Exodus 19 after the arrival of the children of Israel at Mount Sinai (also called Horeb). On the morning of the third day of their encampment, “there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud”, and the people assembled at the base of the mount. After “the LORD[6] came down upon mount Sinai”, Moses went up briefly and returned and prepared the people, and then in Exodus 20
