The major technical challenge facing the detection of individual mine lies on having the ability to discriminate landmines from metal debris, natural clutters, and other objects without the need for vegetation cutting. Future efforts to improve detection should focus on providing discrimination capabilities that includes the fusion of information coming from multi heterogeneous and/or homogenous sensors, and the incorporation of advanced signal processing techniques to support real-time processing and decision making.
