No matter how many women he had sex with he felt lost and aimless.  “Like my life had no meaning,” he added. And he couldn’t pinpoint why.

The feeling of a meaningless life grew so great that he began drinking. The alcohol served as a temporary thrill, but got to be a problem as Ron became addicted.

Eventually he had to join Alcoholics Anonymous, where he was forced to look hard at himself for the first time.

He discovered that he had low self-esteem, stemming from the time when he was about seven or eight years old, when his mother left him and his father to fend for themselves. The emptiness he felt from losing his mother had transformed itself over the years into his sexual hunger for women. But he had never tried to directly address this emptiness before in his entire life. As a result, no matter how many women he slept

with, they could never fix the worthlessness he felt.

 

In the end, Ron broke off with every woman in his life and took a “sabbatical”, checking himself into a rehab center for sex addiction. He still returns to the center from time to time. “My next step is to start going back to church,” he mutters. “But not until I fix this.”
