You need to focus on important character traits in a person that guarantees he or she is capable of nurturing a mature, long-term relationship.

Remember the difference between personality and character? When choosing a date, personality becomes like the packaging to the character that lies underneath. And like all gifts, a person’s packaging may or may not completely reflect the character within.

And when you do finally find a date, you need to also figure out if your own values and goals match with his or hers.

When looking for a prospective partner for a long-term relationship, there are certain character traits that are needed and non-negotiable.   By now, you should be at such a level of self-confidence, these traits are second nature to you:

• You want someone who’s capable of making quick decisions. Someone who is used to making quick decisions is a natural leader, and will match your confidence level.

• You want someone who’s in the habit of reflecting and assessing what needs to be done and makes a plan to get it done.

•  You want someone capable of making a commitment.

Not just someone willing to make it, but someone with the strength and doggedness to keep it.
