Chapter V.

In 1993, Eric Brauer Hirsch and Katherine Pasternak Baum meet  at Purdue University, West Lafayette, in an introductory political  science class, during their first semester.

They both live in Hillenbrand Hall, but are completely occupied  by a heavy course load; Kate takes 21 hours her first semester, and  Eric takes 18 hours.

Katherine graduates in 144 semester hours, in 3 ½ years, and  takes her LSAT at IU Law School during the summer of 1996. She  graduates from Purdue University, West Lafayette, in December  1996, in political science/pre-law.

Katherine applies to Duke, Stanford, Northwestern and Indiana  Law Schools. She is accepted to Northwestern Law School in the fall  of 1996, and begins there in January 1997.

Eric Brauer Hirsch takes a full four years to earn his pre- law/political science degree in May 1997, from Purdue University.  Eric takes his LSAT at Northwestern University during the summer  of 1996, and she does not.

Eric applies to Notre Dame, the University of Michigan,  Northwestern Law, and Duke Law School. He decides on  Northwestern Law School.

Katherine Pasternak Baum spends three summers working in  law offices in Carmel, Indiana, from 1994 to 1996, to gain  meaningful, practical, experience.

Eric Hirsch spends three summers working in law offices in the  Chicagoland area, for associates of his parents.
