The airplane journey that day gave me time to think very carefully about what I wanted from life, and I knew ultimately I would have to choose between the two men who had become my best friends. Jake remained the sensible choice, the right choice, the choice any girl my age would want. That man was stable; he owned his own company, was doing very well for himself and was genuinely a very nice and kind man. He was definitely marriage material, but was he too close to what Guy was like, and what did that mean for me and the freedom and confidence I had gained. Would I lose all of that?
Ben, on the other hand, was dangerous, unstable, very unpredictable and now on the other side of the world. He really was a bad boy who was a good man. My heart, however, thought of Ben a lot, and even with all the ups and downs, I realised I truly loved him. There was only one problem; his wife.
