Festival of the immortals held in the first eve of every ninth year. During this festivity the local leader would hand his crown to the next leader in coming. He may also choose to have himself sacrificed to the Tin kato' or the supreme God, Dyaus Pita. For a leader to choose this act of sacrifice was viewed as representing the ultimate in an example of altruism. In doing so this leader sealed his fame for all time forward, with a guarantee that his family would be supported in luxury for nine thirty year generations. Failure to fulfill this obligation meant that the entire locality preferred death by sword.
