A wedding is a grand occasion and for the happy couple a time filled with great excitement and drama not to mention stress and empty bank accounts. All part of the fun we believe but the couple could do with a bit of help and that's where family and friends need to rally round.
It was long believed that giving soon-to-be married couples money was not the done thing. Well times have changed and you can give money if you want to; one thing is for sure, it will be greatly appreciated. Consider that the couple has to pay for the wedding themselves, then There's the expense of buying or renting a home and getting it set up. You can always give the gift in a very diplomatic manner – attach the check to a small gift like a lovely picture frame or candlesticks and give it to them. You can also attach a note letting them know it is towards the honeymoon or to have a slap-up meal on your account.
Couples hesitate to put expensive items on the registry and you could get them something they have not listed. Of course, it depends on how much you want to spend and you will need to know what those items are. You could try talking to the bride's mother to get the inside scoop. If the gift is very expensive you may want to organize your friends into contributing as well. It really makes more sense when you stop to think about it.
If you have the money to give a valuable gift you could choose a lovely piece of art or a vase or something decorative for the couple's new home. Antique furniture or lace are also good choices. Some people give a really expensive wine to be opened on a special anniversary. The options are limitless and the choice is yours based on the budget you have.
You could give the couple a night's stay at a luxury hotel but you will need to make sure they aren't already booked to fly out the night of the wedding. If they are not, you could pay for their stay in a classy hotel for their first night as a married couple. Bet they would simply love that!
Upgrading their airline tickets to first class is another great idea. These are things a newly married couple certainly cannot afford and would really welcome with gladness.
