#14. The Issue of Drug Use by Teens

For a long time, drugs have been used as a means of solace and satiety by people all around the world. People look to them for comfort, happiness and joy, relaxation and ecstasy. The business of dealing with drugs is achieving great heights because of its popularity and the age group that plays the most important role in making it popular is definitely the teens. They no doubt seem to enjoy it like most of the other users. Their curiosity and adventurous nature lead to the usage of drugs and then it becomes more than a habit that is addiction. When the usage is abusive, it becomes a problem for the teen and their parents as well as the rest of society.

It is important to discuss the worst impacts of drugs on  everybody and teens in particular. First of all, as drugs are taken to get calm and for relaxation, they make a person dull and drowsy, the teen will be down all day and will not be able to perform daily activities. Studies are mostly affected because it is not possible for the teen to concentrate with this mind. They start shirking their responsibilities at home and school. Not just the grades but the extracurricular activities are also badly affected.

Teenagers that use drugs will avoid physical activities and prefer to stay indoors. They are mostly absent from school and sports activities. The health of the drug user also deteriorates as one loses the desire to eat or drink healthy food and wants to get their entire fulfillment from the drugs.

As drugs dont come free, the addiction is also a financial blow and since most teens are dependent upon their parents, basically the financial loss is for the parents. And when they dont get the money from their parents they have to steal, borrow or sell other things. So we can see that the use of drugs is not just a problem on its own, in fact it is the initiator of a lot of other problems.

When the effects of the drugs are at their peak and the user is not aware of his actions many wrong activities are performed. They include stealing, robbing, lying, assaults and more. Criminal acts don’t appear that big a deal.

Such cases should be dealt with care as teens are very sensitive and vulnerable. The issues should be dealt with  through counseling and if required, help should be taken from the teachers, counselors and psychiatrists as well as doctors. The earlier the issue with drug use is solved, the better it is for the whole family.
