There was a person in one of our offices. This person was well educated and was well capable in the position held. Was using all the facilities, like international travels, overtime charges, leaves and other facilities, but was not performing up to the mark. Lethargic in writing the reports and submit them in time. Often instructs others to do the job. Always tries to escape from work and responsibilities. Everyone was annoyed by this person. Because this person’s curriculum vitae is saleable and was used in bidding the projects and getting them. But not able to extract work from the person. In every organisation, there are such people existing, who are less dependable for deliverable’s in a project.
In one of the offices, my boss once asked, I want to see what each person is doing on their computers. He was particular about a person and had doubts that he was doing online shares trading all the time in office. He used to sit in a corner, in the room in such a way that no one could see him when they approached. By the time the person is closer, he had enough time to close the screens and open a document which is related to his work. In such a case, instead of making a person lose integrity one should insist on the person outputs as per the timelines.
In many offices, many people listen to music while working. Their mind can go anywhere and come back. The quality of the work delivered is mostly compromised.
Mostly the top leaders in an organisation will have a greater responsibility to deliver the outputs.
I appreciate a driver in an organisation, where for this person the responsibility to take a person from point ‘A’ to point ‘B’ can never be compromised. But for a person doing another kind of jobs, where intangible qualitative work is involved the performance could be compromised.
