BIBLE REFERENCES

Unless otherwise stated, all references are taken from the New King James Version of the Bible.

Reference 1

There is a verse in the Bible which is about doing everything for the glory of God. This is found in

1 Corinthians 10:31:

“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

Reference 2

There are many verses in the Bible that explain how to become a Christian. Here are some examples:

John 3:16:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Acts 16:31:

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved…”

Romans 10:9:

“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Reference 3

‘Sin’ is the Bible name for all the wrong that people do against God. The Bible teaches that everyone has sinned against God. This can be found in

Romans 3:23:

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Reference 4

This is a reference to

Proverbs 23:5:

“Will you set your heart on that which is not?

For riches certainly make themselves wings;

They fly like an eagle toward heaven.”

[The Bible does not mean that money literally flies; this verse is saying that riches are easily lost.]

Reference 5

The Bible talks about the Christian putting on the ‘armour of God’. This is explained in

Ephesians 6:10-18:

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly place. Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…”

Reference 6

In Ephesians 6:17 the Bible is described as “the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.”

Reference 7

This quote from James 5:16-18 which explains about effective prayer:

“…The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.

And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.”

Reference 8

This is a reference to a verse in Psalm 119:105 which explains how the Bible can show us the way:

“Your word is a lamp to my feet

And a light to my path”

Reference 9

You can read about the promise of the Lord Jesus to send another Helper (or Comforter) to Christians in John 14:16-17 (see below). This is the Holy Spirit who is a Divine Person who helps and guides Christians today.

“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever – the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive…”

Reference 10

You can read the account of how God made the world in the book of Genesis, chapter 1.

Reference 11

The Bible makes it clear that the Lord Jesus came to seek and save people. You can read a verse about this in

Luke 19:10:

“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

Reference 12

The Bible describes the Lord Jesus as giving Himself as a “ransom” – that is paying the price – for all those who trust in Him. Examples of verses about the Lord Jesus being a ransom are:

Matthew 20:28:

“Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

1 Timothy 2:5-6:

“For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.”

Reference 13

This is a reference to a verse in the Bible in which the Apostle Paul describes himself as the chief of sinners. This can be found in

1 Timothy 1:15:

“This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the chief.”

Reference 14

This is a reference to Psalm 119:11:

“Your word have I hidden in my heart,

That I might not sin against You.”

Reference 15

This is a reference to

Hebrews 4:12:

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
