Memories of merrymeeting

I thought I would tell you about my experiences of merry meeting I stayed for my holidays from 1950 until Dorothy Trussell left the smithy my children also stayed there and have happy memories I remember going to the toilet up the garden with slugs and snails ,aunty Dorothy boiling water for us to have a wash and to wash the dishes .we only have a few photos .aunty Dorothy was a lovely cook she loved having visitors she was a W,I member and had meetings where they dressed up with best dresses and big hats for it. Uncle Charlie worked at Falmouth docks as well as the smithy

Impressive amount of research

My forbears - the Trengoves were at Merry Meeting for many years before John Trengove emigrated to Ballarat Victoria Australia where he continued to work as a blacksmith. Other Trengove family members also emigrated to Australia. Our line moved to New Zealand when John was killed by a horse. My family found the history interesting and a great resource for future researchers. I visited Merry Meeting in 2004 and met Leonard who was welcoming and interesting. He generously gave me a horseshoe dug up from the grounds. Amazingly I was able to bring this family Taonga into New Zealand and it currently features in an exhibition of heritage items which have personal meaning to their owners.
