Cat Tale 09: Designer Coats

How about coats? I mean fur coats, of the feline type. What a fabulous variety of beauty and elegance, wouldn’t you agree? We’ve got designs in a whole range and combination of colors and patterns that bring an ever-changing rainbow to life on four legs! Why don’t we briefly review some examples of the most common feline fashion styles available at any given time.

To start out, there’s a bicolor type, my favorite version being the tuxedo cat. What an elegant creature that is, with his mostly black body accompanied by a luxurious, white chest. He’s ready to go out on the town on a moment’s notice with that formal attire!

As a variation of the previous, we have the lovely van cat. In this case, she’s a dazzling white kitty with the only colored parts to be found on her tail and the top of her head, and perhaps a few spots on her ears too. Is that cool, or what!

And of course, we don’t want to leave out the marvelous blue-grey mixtures that are proudly modeled on a great number of my feline companions. These two complementary colors provide for endless combinations of shades and shapes that make the world a lot more interesting and visually stimulating, without a doubt.

Then there’s the tabby type. Wow, how about those good-looking kitties! They come striped, blotched, marbled, spotted, and ticked. Each of those kinds is presented in countless forms and variations, making them all unique. My personal favorite in this category is the mackerel tabby, who has the characteristic “M” prominently displayed on her furry forehead. That’s “M” for “magnificent,” of course!

Or what do you think of those calicos, huh? This type is sometimes referred to as tri-colors, for obvious reasons, and will always have black and red mixed in with another shade to make them triply terrific!

Related to the former are the tortoise shells, who proudly show off an eye-catching combination of black, red, cream, or blue colors, with perhaps a few white spots included for mixtures that are even more pleasurable.

There’s also a ginger kitty whose stunning orange coat gives her a bright, healthy glow that will turn the heads of even the most hard-to-please fashion critics!

To mention just a few more examples of the most common varieties of colors and patterns found among my species, we definitely do not want to leave out the color point design, most often associated with the Siamese cat. With a dark face, ears, feet, and tail combined with lighter shades adorning the rest of their bodies, these beautiful creatures are easily recognizable, and much admired for their superb use of shading contrast on the different areas of their slim physique.

Almost at the end of our quick tour of cat coats, I’ll include the fairly rare but glamorous all-white cats. They are a radiant, symbolic representation of purity and cleanliness.

Finally, there are the magical smoke cats that appear to have a solid, rather dark color covering on their bodies until they walk around and reveal the hair roots to be a white or creamy color secretly hidden underneath. That’s a pretty clever way to attract attention, don’t you think!
