Book Description HTML

Buddhadasa Bhikku (1906-1993) is one of the most important Buddhist teachers of the twentieth century. As the meditation master of Suan Mokkh Meditation Center in Chaiya, southern Thailand, he propagated Buddhist philosophy and meditation practice among tens of thousands of western visitors from North America, Europe and Australia. When he passed away in 1993, he left behind a massive body of literary works in Thai language, explaining how traditional Buddhist teachings are relevant to the modern world. He inspired generations of teachers, intellectuals, and activists who have spread out across the world, to translate his teachings into practice. He is one of the founders of modern socially engaged Buddhism, and was a key person in the reformation of 20th century Thai Buddhism.

Not just a book , a cleft in history

It's difficult to prise this book apart from Acts and the New Testament . Sometimes we need something coming in at a bit of a tangent to wake us up. This isn't a normal review because I am biased . Jack contacted me when he first brought it out . He died 2014 and back then there were about 10 different download sites that came up on Google after he had left it as a free legacy . These people DIDN'T read the book ....but kind of got it . Catholics cheat because all their priests are celibate , so if they get into revival , they form an instant elder community as they did at Ann Arbor Michigan New Covenant community . Graham Pulkingham a middle class rector realised around 1960 that he really did not have the " stuff " for deep inner city Houston needs . He cried on his crypt floor for about 3 months . He was baptised in the Spirit and a community formed round him . In Britain a Pentecostal pastor felt led to get out a chainsaw to his wooden pulpit and South Chard became a co eldership ....and that's what 1 John 1 is on about and what Corinthian Elders is on about . Don Francisco did a song called the Sunday Chainsaw Massacree. These people never read the 2009 book , but it's heralding a non pyramid world , where people come to collective decisions , but each has his or her ministry . In such settings where we aren't trying to maintain 10 church buildings up one high street ....Jack begins his book picturing what the release of funds would achieve . The Bible looks nothing like what humans have made churches into . The book is a wake-up call .

Good solid teaching for a beleaguered church. Nothing controversial and all scripture based - but I'm sure it will still upset some church leaders!! - here in the UK most of it is taken for granted already in the 'renewed' churches.

This book will enrich your spiritual walk with Christ and give you more insight about the Church, pastors, leaders, and elders according to the word of God.
