THE QUEEN OF CUPS

“The Queen of the Throne of Waters”

Gemini - Cancer

Water of Water

DESCRIPTION AND SYMBOLISM

Lost in the depths of her creative imagination, the crowned Queen of Cups contemplates a closed chalice whose handles are shaped as winged angels and whose cover resembles the dome of a cathedral complete with a decorative spire and cross. A gold crown sits upon her head. She is robed in silver and blue and sits upon an ornate stone throne decorated with images of Sea Nymphs and Water Spirits, the top of which is crowned by a large conch shell. Her throne sits on a rocky outcropping and her feet rest upon a pile of colorful precious stones that have washed ashore but do not touch the rippling waters that lap up against the shoreline.

ASTROLOGICAL ASSOCIATION

The perfect essence of the Holy Feminine power of Water finds its fullest and most powerful expression in The Queen of Cups with her innate connection to the emotions, imagination and instincts. She combines the mental acuity of Gemini with the nurturing maternal waters of Cancer causing the great sea to give birth to the secrets hidden in the watery depths of the Divine Imagination and bringing forth these precious gems into the light of the world.

Water of Water

As Water of Water this Queen embodies all those qualities of mystery and beauty that are enshrined as the highest qualities of the Eternal Feminine: intelligence, imagination, creativity, sincerity, loyalty and devotion. She is the pure essence of Water – the Queen of the inner kingdom of the Soul.

ORACLES

When the Queen of Cups appears she may indicate yourself, another person close to you, someone who may enter your life, an aspect of your own personality or an aspect of yourself that needs to be recognized, developed or asserted. She may also represent a situation that you may find yourself in.

When Appearing Upright in a Reading

The Queen of Cups is a woman who values emotional awareness and imagination above all else. She is a practical, honest, intelligent and fair-minded woman but sometimes exhibits a lack of common sense. She lives on feeling and imagination and is a very intuitive person who is easily led and is often more a reflection of others opinions than of her own. Although she would rather gaze into the secret springs of imagination, she is a good woman – a loving and devoted wife and mother who is loyal to her husband and family. She is kind of heart but is not inclined to generosity when it comes to helping her friends. Her needs and the needs of her family always come first.

When Appearing Reversed in a Reading

Reversed, this card points to a woman of perverse character who is extremely untrustworthy. She is very unreliable and uses her considerable intelligence for evil ends. She never can be depended upon as her opinions change swiftly and without any apparent reason.  This Queen cannot control her emotions and is often inclined to hysterical fits. Vice and immorality pervade her life and will infect yours. Be extremely careful around this woman.

THE TREE OF LIFE

“The Sphere of Understanding”
