Lessons for Adversity
3. You’re not that smart. Get an independent assessment.
If you’re facing trouble for an extended period of time, it’s probably a result of your leadership decisions. If you helped create the problem, your thinking may not be the best to get you out of the problem. Seek out help. Seek out a true, independent assessment. Seek out specialists, creative thinkers, and advisors from different fields. Find people who think differently than you. Seeking help doesn’t mean you’re weak and you’ve failed. It means you’re smart and proactive. There is tremendous power in a group focused on overcoming a problem.
Task: Go outside your circle of trusted friends. Do research on specialists and/or advisors from a different field. You’ve tried solving the problem your way, with your people; now try it another way. If it doesn’t work the first time, try again. Keep trying a different approach from a different thinker until you get the right result.
