The Epilogue

 

The others exit, and Prospero is left standing alone on the stage to deliver the final speech – to bring the play to a conclusion and to ask for the approval (the applause) of the audience. Like Shakespeare leaving the magic of the London stage and retiring to Stratford (upon his retirement), Prospero intends to leave the magic of his island and retire at his Dukedom in Milan for the remaining years of his life.
