    While previewing the book, I read something like «Apply solder from the top» (assuming a horizontal pipe, I suppose). The Copper Development Association writes in The Copper Tube Handbook (free on the web) under Applying Solder on Page 48: «start applying solder metal slighty off-center at the bottom of the joint».

    Thanks for the post, and for everyone that is more of a tactile learner I would suggest that you don't get a plumbing book. And instead I would suggest that you just go with hiring a plumbing. Because they know what they're doing, and they can do it a lot faster than you.
