Part Four

December 5, 10:00 A.M. MST

B7 in Colorado Springs

The team assembles in the conference room for their last briefing session before the DDOS attack against Israel is to begin.

“We all know the drill,” Blaster says.

“The website has been shut down,” Lulu reports. “I will take the listserv down tomorrow afternoon.

“The three dating game clients have been apprehended and turned over to Madison,” Lucy reports. “One has been identified as having a leadership position in a terrorist cell, the other two are just your run of the mill perverts.”

“We received the data form the computers in Portugal via satellite yesterday,” Germ reports. “It has been added to our database. A preliminary analysis shows we have about 10,000 new names or identities.”

“We have arranged with the European team (code name: Labrador) that helped us with the data from Portugal to be a receiving server for the data we get from the other computers in Europe,” Lucy reports. “They will receive the entire data file then relay it to us here via satellite. We will handle the transfer of the data from Malaysia ourselves if we decide to hit that system.”

“We have assessed twenty four government computers to hit, two are in Israel,” Tonya reports. “We have good attack plans for the two in Israel and eighteen of the others. This chart shows our planned hit sequence. The Israeli systems are first and we will hit them during the DDOS. The next group we have solid plans for. The final group of four are the ones in question at this point.”

“What about the other four?” Blaster asks.

“We will monitor the situation and our resources as the DDOS attack and our bug works through systems.” Tonya adds. “We won’t know until the cyberwar unfolds.”

Anything else?” Blaster asks.

There is nothing.

“Then tomorrow night it is,” Blaster says as she closes the meeting.

It is time for the DDOS attack against the government systems in Israel to begin. The entire team is assembled to start their hits on the government systems.

Germ, Rabbit, and Blaster had configured a large room on the second level as an attack lab. There are monitors suspended from the ceiling so they can watch the news broadcasts and a dozen workstations are set up for the team to use for their attack and ongoing research.

“We are seeing DDOS attack activity against the Israeli computers,” Germ reports. “It is intensifying rapidly.”

“I cannot get t any of the web servers that are under attack,” Lulu reports. “Seems like the DDOS is successful at this point.”

“Hit the two Israeli systems now,” Blaster Directs.

“I am in the first system,” Germ reports. “I am moving data.”

“I am in the second system,” Rabbit reports. “I am moving data.”

“I have a confirmation from Labrador that they are receiving data Lucy reports.

“I am out of system one,” Germ reports.

“I am out of system two,” Rabbit reports.

“Labrador has the data,” Lucy says. “They are commencing satellite transmission.”

“The data is coming in,” Razer reports. “I am spooling to the holding server and running virus scans.”

“Hit the two systems in Spain now,” Blaster Directs.

“I am in Spain one,” Tonya reports. “Moving data now.”

“I am in Spain Two” Germ reports. “I am moving data.”

“Labrador is receiving both streams,” Lucy reports.

“The Israeli DDOS is on the news,” Randy reports.

“The DDOS on Israel is still operative,” Lulu reports. “It seems that little if any action is being taken to stop it.”

“They will likely let it go for a while,” Ken advises. “They thrive on drama.”

“I am out of Spain one,” Tonya reports.

“I am out of Spain Two” Germ reports.

“Labrador confirms receipt of the Spain files.” Lucy reports. “They will start transmission on our go ahead.”

“The data sets are in from Israel,” Razer reports. “Virus scans are done, Take it away Spinx.”

“Commence transmission on the Spain files,” Razer directs.

“Labrador is transmitting,” Lucy reports.”

“Spain is coming in,” Razer reports. “I am spooling to the holding server and running virus scans.”

“Hold for five minutes,” Blaster directs. “When Spain is in we can start again.”

“I brought sandwiches and drinks,” Henry says as he walks through the room giving the team their choice of snacks and beverages.”

“More news stories,” Randy reports. “The usual condemnations and threats of retaliation.”

“NIPC, CERT, and SANS have put out alerts about cyberattacks,” Ken announces.

“The Spain data is in,” Razer reports. “Virus scans are done, Take it away Spinx.”

“Got it.” Spinx reports.

“Commence on Italy,” Blaster directs.

“I am in Italy one,” Germ Reports. “Moving data now.”

“I am in Italy two,” Rabbit Reports. “I am Moving data.”

“I am in Italy three,” Tonya Reports. “Moving data”

“Labrador is receiving three streams,” Lucy reports.

“The DDOS on Israel is still operative,” Lulu reports. “It still seems that they are not responding at all.”

“FBI just put out a bulletin,” Ken reports.

“I am out of Italy one,” Germ Reports.

“I am out of Italy two,” Rabbit Reports.

“I am out of Italy three,” Tonya Reports.

“Labrador confirms they have the data,” Lucy reports. “They are transmitting and need a few minutes to take down the first holding server and switch to number two.”

“We are ready to receive Italy,” Razer reports.

“Labrador is transmitting,” Lucy reports. “Then they want a twenty minute break.”

“State Department has put overseas posts on alert,” Randy reports.

“While we are waiting for Labrador do you want to check on the Malaysia system?” Germ asks.

“Give me a status check on it,” Blaster directs.

“We are receiving Italy,” Razer reports. “Spooling to the holding server and running virus scans now.”

“Malaysia is wide open,” Germ reports.

Blaster looks at Tonya who nods approval.

“Commence with Malaysia,” Blaster adds.

“I am in Malaysia and moving data to our number one Asian holding server.” Germ reports.

“Italy is in and scanned,” Razer reports.

“Got it.” Spinx reports. “Moving Italy to the MassPar.”

“I am out of Malaysia.” Germ reports.

“Leave the data on Asia one until we get finished,” Blaster directs.

“Labrador is ready on holding server number two,” Lucy reports. “Switch your destination settings.”

“Done,” Germ reports.

“Got it,” Razer reports.

“I Got mine set,” Tonya reports.

“Done,” Rabbit reports.

“Commence on France,” Blaster directs.

“France is off-line,” Tonya reports. “We will place lower in the sequence.”

“Commence on Switzerland,” Blaster directs.”

“I am in Switzerland,” Germ reports. “I am moving data.”

“Labrador is receiving Switzerland,” Lucy reports.

“The DDOS on Israel is still operative,” Lulu reports. “But traffic seems to be diminishing. They have probably taken action to block IP addresses or packet types.”

“I am out of Switzerland,” Germ reports.

“Labrador has Switzerland,” Lucy reports. “They are commencing transmission.”

“Switzerland is coming in,” Razer reports.

“Hold until Switzerland is in,” Blaster directs.

“DoD has put military system administrators on alert,” Ken reports.

“Switzerland is in,” Razer reports. “Virus check is complete. Take it away Spinx.

“Got it,” Spinx reports.

“How is everybody doing?” Blaster asks.

The team all reports they are doing fine.

“Commence with Turkey,” Blaster directs.

“I am in Turkey,” Rabbit reports. “I am moving data.”

“The DDOS on Israel is declining,” Lulu reports. “Traffic is at 50 percent of peak.”

“Labrador is receiving Turkey,” Lucy reports.

“I am out of Turkey,” Rabbit reports.

“Labrador confirms receipt of Turkey,” Lucy reports. “They are commencing transmission.”

“Turkey is coming in,” Razer reports.

“The DDOS on Israel is still declining,” Lulu reports. “Traffic is at 40 percent of peak.”

“Turkey is in,” Razer reports. “Scanned it, take it away.”

“On it,” Spinx reports.

“Commence with the Netherlands,” Blaster directs.

“The Netherlands is off-line,” Tonya reports.

“Commence with the Sweden,” Blaster directs.

“Sweden is off-line,” Germ reports.

“Germany two is off-line,” Tonya reports.

“Germany three is off-line,” Germ reports.

“Labrador is receiving Germany one,” Lucy reports.

“I just got bounced out of Germany one,” Rabbit reports.

“Labrador confirms Germany one is disrupted,” Lucy reports. “They will transmit what they have but need another twenty minutes to switch to holding server three.”

“Germany one partial is coming in,” Razer reports. “Spooling and scanning.”

“Shall we let our bug out?” Blaster asks.”

“Germany one partial is in and clean,” Razer reports.

“On it,” Spinx reports.

“Affirmative on the bug,” Tonya reports. “Let it out.”

Tonya, Blaster, Germ, Rabbit, Razer, and Lucy switch their attention to the task of putting the Middle East mass mailer on its way.”

“Done,” Tonya and Blaster report simultaneously.

“Done,” Lucy reports.

“Everybody hold,” Blaster directs.

“Greece is done,” Razer reports.

“Got it,” Spinx reports.

“Labrador is out of the game,” Lucy reports. “They will be happy to help the next time but it is time for them to lay low and start killing log files.”

“Take ten and then let’s regroup,” Blaster directs.

The team assembles in the conference room to decide their next steps.

Status check,” Blaster directs.

“The DDOS is all but over,” Lulu reports. “The packet and IP blocking maneuvers on the part of the Israelis have mitigated the impact.”

“Our bug is still working and will probably continue to do so for the next few days,” Rabbit reports.

“Overall, we did very well,” Razer reports. “The hits are clean, the path is being wiped out by Labrador, and we have a lot of new data.”

“We still have several targets that we may consider hitting in the future,” Tonya reports. “France, The Netherlands, Sweden, and Germany responded to the situation by taking their systems off-line. Gibraltar, Luxembourg, Austria, Russia, Tunisia, and Norway may still hold good data.”

“We have enough data to keep us busy for weeks,” Rabbit reports. “Let’s just go on hold and work through that. We can probably have a file ready for Madison in four or five days. We can probably give him four more sets of data through the end of the month.”

“That pretty much brings us up to our deadline anyway,” Brandon says.

“Then let’s call it a night,” Blaster directs. “Everybody needs to work on profiles for four or five days. Then we will meet again to decide what to do.”

December 11, 10:00 A.M. MST

The team assembles in the conference room to discuss their future plans.

“Given the overall circumstance we are going to slow activity down for a several weeks” Brandon says. I will discuss the circumstances with General Madison next week to plan our future efforts.”

“Lulu, Germ, and Rabbit and I are going to spend two weeks in Hawaii,” Lucy says. “We are leaving tomorrow, but we are taking our laptops in case you need any immediate assistance.”

“Sharon and I leave next week to go back to D.C. for the holidays,” Brenda says. “We are also going to spend several weeks working with various FBI teams who are following up on the leads we generated on terrorists that may be in the United States.”

“Randy and Ken will stay with us until for about eight more days working on profiles.” Blaster says. “Then they will be leaving to spend the holidays with their families and later go to D.C. to assist Brenda and Sharon.”

“After Lucy, Lulu, Germ, and Rabbit return Razer and I are going to go to the farm for two or three weeks,” Blaster continues. “We will also have our laptops if you need immediate assistance.”

The professor, Henry, Spinx, and I will be here through the holidays working on profiles,” Tonya says. “In January we will be taking some time to go to Hawaii.”

“Any idea what the future efforts may be?” Spinx asks.

“As you all know Operation Net Wide Hunt yielded vast amounts of data,” Brandon replies. “I suspect that the next move will involve stalking and harassing specific individuals or groups of people.”

“I always wanted to be a stalker,” Spinx says. “This could be really good.”
