Chapter 46

Cheryl was pleased with what she saw of the furniture and furnishings. Everything was new and in top shape. This is how Raquel will want it she thought.

Thirty minutes after her phone rang. It was Jason. The men had arrived to assist with positioning the furniture. After greetings and formalities Cheryl showed them what went where. Jason observed quietly. Cheryl was meticulous and after about forty minutes they were all done.

Jason paid and thanked the six men. Then he asked Cheryl to join them in the family dining room. Maria had the table set out appropriately and the aroma of the food was assaulting their nostrils. After a brief prayer they all helped themselves to their share of food. The men had heaped portions on their plates. The beverage was a juice cocktail made up of golden apple, gooseberry, pineapple and carambola fruits.

After the food they all had dessert. Some had ice cream while others chose fruit cocktail. They also had glasses of chilled Martinellis apple cider, in addition to cold water. Once they had finished exchanging greetings and pleasantries, the men said goodbye and they were off. Cheryl helped Maria to clean up.

The next day Cheryl and Jason went to collect Raquel’s car. A sleek four door yellow Hyundai Elantra 2.0 litre six speed automatic sedan. It was gleaming on the outside. The inside was beige fabric material adorning the seats with synthetic wood trims on the dash and interior door handles.

The car also had the latest accessories such as Satellite radio, multi disk CD player with USB input, DVD player with 6” monitor, back up camera with park distance control sensors. The car also had sunroof, inside/outside temperature probes to regulate the air-conditioning, central locking with remote keyless entry and a push start/stop button, an anti-theft system as well as daytime running lights. PK8084 was the registration number.

When Cheryl started it, the engine purred like a gentle kitten. She shifted it into gear and guided it onto the road. The car responded like with the agility of trained racehorse. Cheryl drove it straight to the garage built for it at Jason’s place.

“I see you like it,” Jason said when she had parked and alighted from it.

“Yes,” said Cheryl. “It is beautiful and it rides well.”

“Would you like to have one?” Jason asked. “Maybe,” replied Cheryl.

“Don’t be shy. We can always arrange something where we can get it for you and you can pay back over a period of time.”

“That would be nice,” Cheryl said. “Let me discuss it with my husband first, and then when we have decided I will let you know. Maybe in a day or two.”

“I like that,” said Jason. “You’re starting well. Teamwork it is. Well be sure to let me know.”

“Sure thing Jason.”

“Remember Raquel comes this weekend. I can’t wait to have my sweetheart with me for good this time.”

“Yes I am sure that she shares the same sentiment. It will be good for you both and I believe it will have some fringe benefits for me.”
