CHAPTER 21. I’M NOW A DOPE

ADDICT

The victory at the Liceo was one of my greatest successes. I after being a laughingstock was the president of everyone, and I realized that things could change.

Like everything else, there was a good side and a bad side.

I wanted to do what no one had done before. The position itself meant nothing more than speaking and attending official events. However, my promise to myself was that they wouldn’t forget they chose a Polaco. Taking lessons from Elena and her WIZO, I tried to do something for my school. I took on the task of visiting businesses and asking them to donate paint to make our Liceo look first-class.

We didn’t have an office, so I came up with the idea of organizing dances to build one. The principal lent me the gymnasium, and without him realizing it, I organized the first rock festival. The idea was so new that when we opened the doors, a thousand people filled the venue. The profits were invested in the offices that are still next to the pool. Then, I started selling membership cards. With these, students got up to a twenty percent discount at the cinemas, on school uniforms, at restaurants, and at discos. The business was so good that we bought a telephone, a typewriter, and sound equipment.
