Book Description

Based on Melville's actual experiences after having jumped ship in the Marquesas Islands, this work was extremely popular, and provoked disbelief among its readers until the events it described were corroborated by Melville's fellow castaway, Richard Greene. While the book is based on fact, Typee is properly considered a work of fiction: the three week stay on which the author based his story is extended to four months, and Melville drew extensively on contemporary accounts by Pacific explorers to add cultural detail to what might otherwise have been a straightforward story of escape, capture and re-escape.

    Would Make a Good Film
    11 Jun 2022
The characters are a bit stereotypical - goodies all good and baddies all bad - and the ending where all relationships were renewed is a bit unrealistic. Also a bit long - could have been a shorter read. However, if well done it would make a fun film with the exaggerated characters playing to their fore.

This book should be published! There were a few grammatical errors, but nothing that can not be edited. I think this author should look into publishing this book. I am currently reading his second book "The Landlord", and so far it is not disappointing me either!

A must read. This book is one of the best I have ever read. It has everything you could possibly want in a book. I very seldom read a book twice, but expect to read this one several more times.

Most free books are of a fairly poor standard with fledgling writers trying to attract readers. This is a real exception. Good story, not obviously predictable with a smattering of all different characters.I thought it was great and will be recommending it to friends

I'd say this book is right up there with the best of them, a diamond in the rough if you will. Excellent character development keeps the story very interesting, keeps momentum building.
