This novel tells two separate linked stories, that of 34-year-old Constance, an Australian living in present day Spain, and that of her Kiwi friend Matt, who tells her stories about his days as a young carefree hippy in Australia in the late 70s. Both of them, in their respective times, are trying to find their ways in life. Constance's life is riddled with problems and bad relationships, including an abusive one with her boyfriend. However, through hearing about Matt's time as a young hippy, humorous tales about an almost forgotten age in history, a time shared by a father who she never knew, she begins to find answers that had always eluded her. Her father begins to come alive to her. With time, and some help from unexpected places, Constance finds the courage to face her many demons.
