Chapter 44 The Prophecy

Misara felt a bit saddened upon recognizing the handwriting of his uncle on the manuscript. But she told herself she had to keep reading. This was what Master Omed died for, she realized.

After reading aloud his uncle’s account of the Time of Despair, she was filled with pride knowing that a High Servant of Misar was instrumental in the defeat of Qorath’s forces.

But as she turned the pages, she found what the Circle had discovered about the prophecy.

“The prophecy speaks of the Tome of Shadows and how it would be used to release Qorath from his imprisonment in the Mountain of Sorrow,” Misara said. “The comet would appear seven hundred years later and another necromancer would rise and he would use the Stone of Affliction to spread a new plague. And the despair that this plague causes would be the means to allow the Ritual of Releasing to be completed.”

“Why did you ask when the next great eclipse would occur?” Revik said to her.

Misara paused for a moment.

“Because the Ritual of Releasing could only be performed during the great eclipse,” Misara said.

Revik and Beret appeared to be taken aback by what Misara had just revealed.

“Then we must find this Stone of Affliction and destroy it,” Revik said.

Misara nodded as she had come to the same conclusion.

“But would destroying the Stone be enough to prevent Qorath from being released?” Beret asked.

“I believe so,” Misara answered.

“Does the manuscript say where the Stone lies?” Revik asked.

“The Circle was able to learn that a Temple of Kirion, one of the new gods had been built on top of it,” Misara said.

“Then we must hurry,” Beret said. “I believe Selagim is one day’s journey from here.”

“What are we to do with Aisha?” Revik asked.

“I will come with you,” Aisha said.

Misar and the others were startled by her voice.

“Have you been listening to everything Aisha?” Misara asked as she began to stroke the girl’s hair.

“I was awoken by the sound of your beautiful voice,” Aisha said to Misara as she returned her smile.

“How do you feel now?” Revik asked his apprentice.

“Much better teacher,” Aisha replied. “I believe I can make the journey. And if I start to feel sick again, I will just rest in Selagim when we get there.”

Revik glanced at Misara, who then nodded at him in approval.

“Alright then,” Misara said to Aisha. “You are coming with us.”

Misara then noticed that Kort did not join them while she was reading from the manuscript. She wondered what could be the matter.

As Beret and Revik stepped out of Aisha’s bed chambers, Misara heard a sound from outside the window that seemed like something was scraping the wall. She went to the window and looked out. But she found nothing there.
