Chapter 4

It Is The Glory Of God To Conceal A Matter

It is inherent in man to try to figure out why things occur the way they do throughout life. There is no doubt that Divine Providence plays an important role during the unfolding process; however, there is one truth that needs to be settled if anyone truly desires to embark upon a walk of faith. If we ever think we know how or by what means God is going to do something in our lives, rest assured, God Will Choose Another Way! God is an excellent keeper of secrets during the unfolding processes of how He will meet our provisional needs. Scripture, challenging us, says, “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, and it is our honor to search it out.”1

Retrospection is an excellent way to begin to understand the principles by which God operates throughout our lives. Therefore, it is very important for us to keep searching and examining the things God does in our lives, notating them, because we have so much to learn and so little time. This is one of the reasons why we tell people that it is imperative to keep a notebook or journal. It is a valuable tool to use as you read your Bible so that you can document the things that you believe God shows you. It’s like a captain keeping the ships logs documenting his travels and the things he learns along the way.

YAHUAH had prepared our hearts to leave, but we had a few problems which God had to resolve, or so we thought, before we could leave. One was that we had a home, which we were trying to sell. We had over $50,000 in equity, and we envisioned departing with that equity in our pockets. Our trip was delayed eleven months because we simply could not believe that God would have us walk away from our home. The door was opened and everything was pointing towards leaving at a certain time, but we failed to launch because the home would not sell. We had a lovely home on a large lot on the water, white brick, with three bedrooms and two baths. While we were preparing to leave, we had installed a new bulkhead at our water’s edge, put on a new roof, and laid new flooring inside. I prayed intensely and struggled for almost a year while trying to make sense out of God’s directive ways, all to no avail. The home would not sell, and it was as if everything was pushing us out, forcing us to leave, yet giving us no concluding explanation for such a move.

Sometimes in our walk with God nothing will make sense, but we must not despair, but remain patient and keep praying because He is always working in our lives. God will give His directions when the time arrives, and He will allow us time to ask for a confirmation. The confirmation may come from our spouse, a friend, a child, a stranger, or even some occurrence that speaks He may also communicate through a dream or vision. God is not limited in the ways He can communicate to us, but we have to be open and pay attention in order to discern His communication. After He communicates, it is necessary for us to obey. I have known many people who have heard from God, but failed to step out in faith and obey, even after they prayed for God to show them what He wanted them to do. This is faith without works, which is failing to obey His direction. I also have missed God in these same areas, but my heart’s desire was to fully obey. It has always been my desire to obey because “…faith (perceiving God’s direction) without works (obeying His directions) is dead.”2
