Good Fats

In their most basic form good fats are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats and are found in several types of fish. These fats effect cell function and hormone production. Also these fats contain Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 has been linked to the reduction of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and stroke. In order to maintain your health for the long term you should incorporate, at least twice a week, fish and fish oils.

If you start a diet low in fat the advantage is that you are eating less fat so your body will store less fat. Also you will be able to eat many of your favorite foods because you will not have the restrictions of diets like Atkins or low carb diets. By restricting bad fats in your diet you are able to eat a greater variety of foods by just avoiding the higher fat versions.

Just remember, do not eliminate all fats from your diet, not all fats are bad for you. We need a certain amount of fats in our diet for our bodies to function correctly.

Never forget that this is a diet and you still have to be careful when you are selecting foods. However you will find this diet less restrictive as some others but you have to be on your guard not to cheat. If you decide to go on this type of diet the control has to come from you rather than from a strict eating plan that does the meal plan for you.

What it comes down to, as with anything in life, we have to have self- control and commitment to your goals. Only you can lose the weight and only you can have control over your life. You have to want to lose the weight and stick to it until you do.

The reason why these diets are successful is because they offer support to their clients. Losing weight is difficult work and when you have some form of a support group the likelihood of staying on the program in the long run increases. This emotional support picks you up on bad days and helps keep you going and on the good days you have someone to share your success with.
