These workouts are called directed thinking exercises that let you get control back in your hand. Please don’t think that they are in any way meant to be a cure for your depression; however, what they will do is allow you to overcome the negative emotions and instead remind yourself that all is not lost. So try them out and see which one works best for you.

Repeat the Mantra

This mental exercise requires you to repeat the same phrase over and over again. The idea is to not only make yourself believe that the phrase is true but to also keep the negativity away from your mind. The method was originated by a French pharmacist, Emil Coue in 1880. He suggested that people became depressed not because of any external force but because we allowed our own ignorance and weakness to dominate our life. And the only way to get over this problem was by becoming stronger and more informed about ourselves.

He suggested that people do this by thinking of one phrase over and over again throughout the day, every day. The phrase is “Every day in every way I’m getting better and better”. An individual would need to think this phrase at least 2 to 5 minutes straight, at one point in time. This may seem like wastage of time, but what it does is ban you from thinking the thought “I  am too stressed and I can’t do it. I’m  worthless, hopeless.” Try this mental exercise and you will notice that it takes your mind off thoughts that may drag you down the dark void.

Stress Releasing Exercise

This short and easy exercise will help you shed the stress off like any extra baggage, but you will have to make it a habit. You can try practicing it throughout the day. All you need to do is focus on your shoulders and drop the stress.
