Some Home Remedies for Depression

Depression can be treated at home. I would like to stress the fact that even though the symptoms may abate for a while, it does not mean that depression will be completely cured by home remedies. You will need to consult a profession for medication or therapy. Below I have collected the names and usage methodology of all the things that are easily available at home and can be used without any fear of side effects. Some of the treatment options are not ones that you will eat, but simply adopt as part of your life. So, here is list for you.

St. Joh? Wort

One of the most popular ways to treat depression is through St. ohn’s Wort. The best part? It does not include  any artificially manufactured chemicals which allows you to avoid all the side effects of medical drugs. St. ohn’s Wort is an herb that has been in use since folk times, when people used it for sleeplessness, nervousness and sadness. But then it was completely shunned to the side. Recently, the herb came back in style for the treatment of depression.

What the herb does is help you relax and ease back feelings of anxiety and worry. St. ohn’s Wort also works as a mild sedative and relieves pain. There are many ways that you can take it, either in the form of tincture, tablet or mix the herb with your regular tea. Keep in mind that even though the herb will help take the edge off your anxiety, it will not completely cure the problem. This is the reason why it is not prescribed for patients suffering from major depressive episodes.

It is easily available to most health stores and you will need to take it for at least 4-6 weeks to notice any visible results. Do not use for children, pregnant or nursing women.

Ginkgo Biloba

Another herb obtained from plants, what Ginkgo Biloba does is increase circulation to the brain and removes feelings of desolation and helplessness. It also allows you to focus well and get the given task done. But the great thing about this herb is that you wont have to wait too long to see its effects. It is pretty efficient and you will notice the clearing of your head within a day or two.

Some experts suggest that  you should not take Ginkgo for more than 6-8 weeks at one point in time, but others swear by its lack of side effects. You can try and see if the drug is effective for you and how much it helps in elevating depression. Make sure you do not give it to children or nursing mothers.

Stress Reliving Teas

There are plenty of teas that can be used to relieve depression. They help you deal with anxiety and feelings of helplessness. You can use them twice a day.

There are even teas available that help get rid of insomnia, allowing you to sleep peacefully and wake
