From the Rain

Torrential rains of sorrow

Teardrops from the sky

Drench me with despair

Uncertainty of why

Sprinkles of discord

Come from everywhere

Building into darkness

Where no one seems to care

Eventually, a saline river

With tumultuous flow

Washes away last remnants of joy

Have never felt so very low

Plunged into fury of the storm

Using all strength to survive

Substance abuse to kill the pain

Questioning if truly alive

Eventually, I see a light

In search of peace I go

Walking away from night

I feel the power of life aglow

Back to holding on

Keeping goals in mind

Progress is very slow

And aging not always kind

Holding onto life’s mystery

Accepting it with humility
