Shameless?

Waves of shame wash over me

no one else to blame

Should have made a different choice

so end wouldn’t be the same

We have a forgiving God

so why is it so difficult

to forgive ourselves

when we get a poor result?

Embarrassment may follow

or the judgment of a friend

When does self-punishment

ever, ever end?

Picking up the pieces

Looking for a way

to cope with our faults

for yet another day

But same mistake repeated

time after time, after time

how far do we berate ourselves

until out of it we climb?

Is the past still haunting us

dragging down our days

Obsession with the negative

never really pays

Letting go so very hard

but forward is a must

to have better judgment

and regain our own self-trust

How do we accept ourselves?

Never give up hope

We can go on despite our past

and begin to cope

Not proud of yesterday

after a moment of reflection

life may take a turn

in a new direction

Always remembering

error is how we learn

Practice self-forgiveness

then better choices discern

Each morning life starts over

another opportunity

to practice good self-care

and live with impunity

Waves of shame wash over me

no one else to blame

Should have made a different choice

the end wouldn’t be the same
