CHAPTER 14 - Ezaarem

When Ramu got near the house where his wife Janu and son Sanu were hiding from the giant, he saw a frightened bull jump out of the yard.

As the bull ran away towards the border in a great panic, Ramu ran inside the house imagining the worst but found his wife Janu and son, Sanu, safe and sound. They were laughing their heads off.  They told him how Sanu, who could imitate animal calls and sounds like that of birds, cats, dogs, cows, bulls and yes even lions too, had frightened the mad bull away. His mother Janu had also helped but her roaring like a lion was not as good as Sanu's.

After they all had a good laugh, Ramu told them about the task at hand.  Ramu sent Sanu to bring a piece of paper to write down their ideas about Ezaarem.

Ramu and his wife spent time thinking about the word "Ezaarem". Sanu thought he had heard it before but could not quite remember when or where. Time was passing and they were not getting anywhere. They began to feel tired.

Ramu's wife, Janu, noticed it was coming up to around nine o'clock at night. She said: "Ramu its time Sanu was in bed.  He has had a long day and must be tired.  C'mon SRM its time for beddy-byes!".

Sanu jumped up excitedly and said he just remembered! Ramu stopped and first looked at Sanu, and then at Janu, in surprise. He said: "Say that again Sanu.  What did you say? Remembered what? Ezaarem?"

Sanu said "Look, what's my name? Sanu Ramu Mamu! Right? That is SRM! ES AAR EM! Young kids and even some foreigners would pronounce it as "Ezaarem"! Ezaarem! Its true because I remember someone who used to call me exactly that, Ezaarem, when I was very very little!"

Sanu could not contain his excitement.

"Look Mum, bedtime will have to wait. I'll be back in a minute.  First Dad and I must go and see the Giant Totu. There is no time to lose."

So Ramu and Sanu started out to meet Giant Totu across the border to where he was resting.  They formed a plan on the way. Ramu asked Sanu to hide behind a tree before he went to speak to the giant.
