SOMA | The Meme Dump

It sounds like a frigging conspiracy theory.

JEREMY

No, it's real. Ah! Hear that? The neighbour’s dog starts barking seconds before the Westbound CN arrives! It must feel the vibrations in the ground! Imagine having that talent?

LEVON

MemeTrade stole my identity. My Soma! Told the internet I was gangster! They said I had to go to jail!

JEREMY

Don’t take it personally, Levon. Automated systems like MemeTrade make fortunes and failures in equal measure. It’s amoral. A massive simulation, with avatars of everyone in the world moving in predictable patterns, like a big cuckoo clock! Can you imagine what it must be like to be their Central Computer? All the world’s information flowing through your wiring! Imagine that level of flow! If there’s a heaven, let it be there!

Jeremy hums his 12Hour Symphony as the two young men follow the train tracks back to the bunker. Levon looks at phone. A picture of June is onscreen. Suddenly Jeremy grabs him by the wrist.

JEREMY

Watch yourself!

He pulls Levon away from the tracks just as the Westbound CN

freight train thunders through the rail yard. Jeremy closes his eyes and begins to sing along to the beat created by the train. He mimes playing his violin and begins bounding around through the weeds as if possessed.

Back at the bunker, Levon notices the lights are flickering. He sees an indistinct creature circling the bunker, sniffing at the wires emanating from it.
