Recognition. While it isn’t necessary, it would be a benefit if you can also point to some familiar “names” within your industry who are working with you on the project, who have worked with you in the past or who have referred you to the person you are contacting. Social proof goes a long way to establishing credibility. Credibility fosters trust. And trust gets you in the door.
