Appendix A: Profile of a Winner

This is my psychological profile of a winner.

1. You have to have unshakeable, unbreakable self esteem. Your value of yourself as a person must be completely independent of whether you succeed or fail at anything you do in life. You have to believe that you are as valuable as any person on the planet.

This high self esteem provides a foundation for the development of many other important personal characteristics, such as self confidence, and other people skills and life skills. If you don't have it you won't make it.

2. You have to approach everything in life with a high degree of self confidence and belief in yourself. And the self confidence has to be visible to other people but not overpowering.

3. You have to be prepared to take some risks and go after the things that you really want. Set yourself goals and then go for them, without concern for what other people might think. Many people are frozen by the fear of what others will think if/when it doesn't work out.

4. You have to be a positive thinker, you know - "the glass is half full instead of half empty". Whenever anyone attempts something challenging in their lives, there are two different mind sets that they can have. Winners concentrate on what they want to achieve and are able to totally focus on that. The others can't stop worrying about all the things that might possibly go wrong.

5. You must have a good sense of humour, and you should approach everything in life with a sense of fun.

6. You need to be naturally happy and friendly. This makes it easy to get on well with other people, and in fact draws people to you like a magnet.

7. You have to be able to handle set-backs. No-one is ever going to go through life without them. "Failures" should be learning experiences for future success instead of traumatic events.

8. You have to be determined and persistent. If you really want to achieve something, then you keep on going until you achieve it.

9. You need to be able to relate to and communicate well with other people.

10. You need to be able to step out of your comfort zone to do the things that have to be done.

11. You need to be competitive and determined. You will never give in.

12. Able to set goals, make plans to achieve them, and have the self discipline necessary to see things through to completion.
