(240-243) Works Of Love

 Part Two III

Love Hopes All Things and Yet Is Never Put To Shame

Hope, Love, And The Eternal

Common knowledge seems to know

That all will end in wretchedness

So all the joys of life forgo

And live each day in bitterness

From such thoughts evil can flow

It stems from a kind of shrewdness

Our vain mentality can tell us so

Thus we end in fearful small-mindedness

In all of this, love has no presence

So profoundly is it diminished

This is a loss of the divine essence

When the eternal thus is finished

We do not hope for another person

Unless it's to our advantage

That's worthless as we have to learn

Such a hope can just do damage

The lover in real love endures

Uncorrupted belief in the eternal

In the scope of love feels ensured

And holds hope for one and all

Love and hope exist together

And thus they bring our best gift

To know all things are forever

They will heal all worldly rifts

When we hope for all, we avoid life's ills

Love hopes all things yet is never brought to shame

All expectations will be fulfilled

Out of love thus in God's name
