(286—289) Works of Love VI Love Abides
Love abides—It never wastes away
There are a joyous things we feel spontaneously
Yet they can weary as time stretches on
Duration of time can bring a bankruptcy
When time drags those spirits down
Such endeavors can just waste away
No matter how poets offer praise
Our strengths but for the moment stay
And disappear into the passing haze
Time itself seems to come and go
And can bring hope and despair
When we're waiting, time can feel slow
Or when its past, it can seem nowhere
Time we feel is tied to our expectation
We think that time will bring us energy
Instead we feel a steady enervation
Thus fall into time wasting lethargy
This is all entailed in the love erotic
Which may well take a great sacrifice
In time such a love is most chaotic
And can lay waste to an entire life
But true love abides—never wastes away
The love of spirit flows into the eternal
Even in our age, this youthful love will stay
For love's not dependent on the temporal
Sacred love abides in our immortality
We know that death will not prevail
Such love takes us beyond all temporality
Love's up-building simply cannot fail
